Quite a minor project, but a nice one to fire up the 3D printer and provide a unique solution!
Recently we serviced some helm-station panels for a client and part of the improvement was to improve the serviceability of them in the future. Some components were almost impossible to replace without disassembly of the panels to perform the works offsite (which we did in this case).
Our idea was to implement a 3D printed plate to make the buttons easily removable for replacement without complete disassembly of the hardware on the back. We designed this, printed it and installed it. Working with 1mm tolerances there was a bit of prototyping to do to get the fit correct!
